Your voice is an instrument just like any other.
Are you currently learning how to play it?
Are you producing sound or simply ‘making’ sound?
Over my 30 odd years of teaching singing, I am constantly amazed at the many “great” voices I hear.
What I really try to look and listen for is “great” singing!
Having a great voice is such a good start to becoming a great singer, who knows that the natural talent is wonderful, but is also aware that technique is what’s needed to go the distance!
It has become acceptable for young singers of today to (eat the chocolate icing first).. so to speak.. and have the cake later!
The problem is that when they get to later, there is NO voice to record with or perform with.
I once heard someone liken it to plants in a hot house “Rapid growth.. Early decay” How true this has become.
I call then “now notes”, Only good for tonight, with voices not even working the second performance, already tired vocal cords, swollen and husky!
The worst part is, due to media and TV and the “get famous in one minute” type shows, this style of performing is being accepted as the norm.
How sad this is!!
